There are moments when the words \u201ccount it all as joy\u201d<\/em> feel much easier to say than to live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hagen Fire has now grown to 56,419 acres<\/strong> and has been burning for 30 days. For those of us at ABC Mountain Retreat, it has been 30 days of watching, praying, waiting, and trusting God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first fire that had us deeply concerned was the Lower Dry Creek Fire. We lost power for three days and spent that time in limbo, wondering if we would be told to evacuate. When that fire was finally contained, we breathed a huge sigh of relief. But before long, the Hagen Fire became our next concern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the midst of all the uncertainty and Fire Watch, we continued to do what we love most\u2014we welcomed people to the mountain. We hosted a couple of church camps and family reunions, all while preparing for a very special event of our own: our daughter\u2019s wedding at the camp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We made a Plan B in case the fire forced us to leave, but praise God, we were able to stay and host what truly was a dream wedding<\/strong>. We are so incredibly thankful for that blessing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For weeks, we watched the fire and felt like we were going to be okay. Then, one morning, all of our phones began going off. We had received a Level 3\u2014GO NOW evacuation order<\/strong> for our area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just like that, we had to cancel several upcoming church groups, gather what we could, say goodbye to our beloved camp, and head for safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our hearts are heavy. ABC Mountain Retreat is more than buildings and property to us. It is a place God has entrusted to us\u2014a place where people come together to worship, rest, make memories, and draw closer to Him. Saying goodbye, even temporarily, was incredibly difficult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And yet, even in the middle of this trial, we know we are blessed.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are safe. We have shelter. We have one another. And, most importantly, we know that God is sovereign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are learning to \u201ccount it all as joy.\u201d<\/em> It isn\u2019t an easy lesson, and we certainly haven\u2019t mastered it. But it is an important one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Right now, what we covet most from our friends, family, and ABC supporters is prayer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please pray for the others whose lives and homes are on the mountain.
Pray for our community.
Pray for ABC Mountain Retreat and for the future of this special place.
And please pray for the brave men and women who are risking their lives every day to fight these fires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We don\u2019t know what the days ahead will bring, but we know the One who does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

God is still good. God is still faithful. And God is still in control.<\/strong> \u2764\ufe0f\ud83d\ude4f<\/p>\n\n\n\n
